Introduction

Transition words help you in making a good paper by arranging sentences from the beginning till the end of the paragraph.
Have you found your writing did not glide smoothly from one sentence or paragraph to the next? Have you thought that your writing has not moved along to be comprehensive and understandable?
You may lack words which can help you to link the paragraph to be easier to read and connect one idea to others.

What are transition words?

They act as a connector that help the flow of your writing to be smooth and comprehensive. Transition words can be single words, but there are also phrases, such as “as a result” or “for instance”.

In fact, these words are used to help you to tie your points together. Moreover, they are the way to avoid an awkward sentence and a wordy sentence that makes the reader not get a clear explanation.

Here is the complete list. You may need to arrange your idea or topic properly. Moreover, the transition words that are used depend on the type of transition word that suits your needs.

Additive Transition words

This type of word is used when you need to link an additional point to the previous one. Remember to use transition words, either single words or phrases, by using a comma. The examples of the additive transitions you might need include; Indeed, In the first place, And, Or, Too, Nor, Further, Moreover, Furthermore, In fact, Alternatively, Additionally, Besides, Actually, and so on.

Adversative Transitions

These are used to indicate contradiction, conflict, and refusal. For example, But, However, On the other hand, While, In contrast, Whereas, Even more, Conversely, Above all, Nevertheless, But even so, Although, Nonetheless, and so on.

Causal Transitions

Causal transitions or cause-and-effect transitions are used to show the cause-and effect relationship by linking current events or circumstances that are caused by other aspects. The causal transitions can include And so, Accordingly, As a result, For this reason, Consequently, So, Hence, Then, Thus, Therefore, As a result (of), As a consequence, Because (of), and many more.

Sequential Transitions

Another transition is sequential transitions, which help to indicate a numerical sequence, conclusion, summation, continuation, or resumption. For example, In the (first, second, etc), to start with, initially, next, subsequently, secondly, afterward, after this, before, to conclude with, as a final point, last but not least, etc.

Those types of words are used for specific functions depending on your arranged sentences or paragraphs. In fact, these words can appear either in the first sentence with a comma, or in the middle of a sentence. Make sure to put them correctly so that you can convey your intention to the reader.

Although using transition words can help you to glide your writing smoothly, but the overuse of the transition words is also will make an incoherent or incomprehensible writing to the reader. Be wise when you use these transition words, although they can be used in all forms of writing.

How to confront and memorize them quickly?

There is no shortage of creative ways to learn and memorize spelling quickly. Likewise, lets’ dive into a few methods through which you can remember them effortlessly – well, you will have to put a bit of effort.

Tackling problematic words / Homophones

There is no shortage of confusing words when you reach level 6. Similarly, where there is a problem, there is always a solution. These confusing words might sound similar; however, they are not spelled similarly and are called Homophones. For example:

Except – Accept

Ball – Bawl

Hanger – Hangar

Caret – Carrot

Believe – Belief

Eye – I

Duel – Dual

And the list goes one. We publish similar lists every week so, be sure to check our website regularly.

Teachers can give out assignments that aid students in identifying homophones and learning to spell them correctly. Moreover, students must put an extra and intelligent effort to identify them. Finally, parents’ job is to encourage them, especially when they feel stressed and overburdened.

Improving short-term memory

Can you make lemonade without lemon? Of course, that is not possible. Similarly, you cannot learn spelling without a decent short-term memory. To perfect the art of learning, you need to have an excellent short-term memory.

It is the job of parents to feed the children with mind-strengthening food, and it is the job of teachers to job their memory with brain-enhancing exercises.

If you look at this problem carefully, it is not rocket science. It is a pretty simple process, and if you put a bit of effort into this area, the results will astonish you.

Lists can be printed, embedded on web pages and shared with classmates.
They can be public, private or visible only to students belonging to a user’s account.
The following paragraphs explain how to handle lists with SBN.

If you are looking for our selection of lists divided by grade check our SPELLING LIST SECTION

My Words section

This is a temporary list used as a basket to store words that will then be saved as Lists.
You will meet a lot of terms while navigating the SBN web app; for instance in report cards or while using the search engine or while browsing the “Words and Lists” section of the website.
Close to each word you will often find a button “Add” or “Add to my words” with a basket icon.
Pressing that button will add the related element in your basket, if the word is already present in “My Words”, you will find a “Remove” button instead.
Please keep in mind that “My Words” is just a temporary area and will be deleted when your session expires.
You can access to your temporary list anytime clicking “My Words” on top menu, the page will show the words contained in the list, the corresponding grade and the following action buttons:

Functions available in “My Words” Page

Copy
Copies the words contained in My Words in the device clipboard, separated by comma “,”, ready to be pasted somewhere else (a text file, a spreadsheet etc.)

Save
Saves the words into a new words list, a dialog box will appear asking to specify a name and a visibility scope, also see the paragraph “Create and delete a spelling list”.

Add to List

Introduction

In This article, I will present an overview of a spelling words list related websites called Spelling Words Well, a website entirely dedicated to spelling learning and k-12 students.
You can find it at the following address:
http://www.spelling-words-well.com
You will find here plenty of useful spelling words list organized by student grade and other interesting criteria. In the next brief paragraphs, I will give you an overview of what you can find on this website.

Website Design

I appreciated the simple yet practical design of the website, with side menus everywhere that make resources very easy to reach out, most of the resources are at most two clicks away from every other page in the website, this is what I call ergonomic.
It feels like landing to an honest, content-oriented, educational website, my idea of how every website should be: clear, practical, providing REAL VALUE to users, focusing on the real things rather than on hype and eye candy.
Design is a breath of fresh air for old school guys like me: it made me go back, with a pinch of nostalgia, on how the web used to be in the good old days (i.e. from the 90s until mid 2000): when marketing didn’t take over the net yet.

Spelling bee related contents (a lot of)

Content is what this website is about: plenty of spelling lists, games, e-books, printable cards, resources and spelling bee hints, tips, and tricks for preparation, it is very difficult to find a website with such a lot of content, so well organized and ready for use for everybody.
A real value brought for free to students worldwide. I really appreciated that.

Spelling words lists

Spelling word lists are immediately accessible here, Spelling Words Well doesn’t bother users with forced subscriptions or sneaky tactics to get into your inbox or similar, yet there is a newsletter subscription box at the bottom of some pages but it’s totally a user’s choice whether to subscribe or not, it is stated loud and clear that the users’ addresses will be only used to send eventual Spelling Bee related newsletters and nothing else, and non subscribers aren’t limited in any way in accessing to the main website contents.
My overall sensation was that the website is more than trustworthy.
Even more important is that the lists are carefully crafted by educators who know their job, they are not just words lists thrown on the table.
This makes spelling words well the best source so far for words lists to be directly imported into the Spelling Bee Ninja study list. Many interesting spelling games and quizzes are also provided for the younger ones.

Spelling Books

A section is dedicated to a comprehensive e-book selection written by Ann Richmond Fisher, the main website editor, and best selling author.

Here are the titles available as listed on the website.

The Spelling Bee Toolboxes

AnyWord Spelling Practice Series

Fun Spelling Worksheets for Early Grades

The Mammoth Spelling Bee Word Lists

The Colossal Spelling Bee Word Lists

Young Spellers

Spelling Bee Word List

Gigantic Bee Spelling Bee Lists

100 Difficult Spelling Bee Words – Volumes 1 and 2

600 Spelling Bee Words and Sentences

For Students and Parents

Check this new, great book by Ann Richmond Fisher:

https://www.spellingbee.ninja/spelling-book-word-detective/

These are not free books, they come at very reasonable prices, more important they are all available in paperback version.

Among all the spelling books contained in the book section, a particular mention goes to the Spelling Bee Toolbox(es), as it looks like one of the most interesting books on spelling bee around.

There are two versions, the first dedicated to Grades 3 to 5
and the second for students attending Grades 6 to 8

Here follow some of the contents of the book as listed on the Spelling words well website:

620 Words and Sentences

Rules for 3 different kinds of bees

Color and B/W award certificates

Recorder’s chart

Instructions for all spelling bee officials

Organizational checklist

List of 100 study words for students

Worksheets for extra practice

Spelling rules, games and activities

Again, a very important thing is that the Spelling Bee Toolboxes books series are also available in hard copy, it is possible to order them through Amazon.
This brings along all the advantages given by a real book compared to electronic versions.

Conclusions

A great website, useful, full of accessible self-service spelling training contents, made by people of good will focused on user needs more than on the business side.
Wish to have more of that kind online. Strongly suggested.
A resource you cannot ignore if you are preparing for the spelling bee or if you want to improve your spelling skills.

The post Find your spelling word list on Spelling Words Well appeared first on Spelling Bee Ninja.
