Curriculum Description: This workshop explores the birth and flowering of American literature in the 19th century. Students will study Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville, Mark Twain, Emily Dickinson, and Henry David Thoreau, discovering how American writers forged a distinct literary voice exploring identity, nature, morality, and the American experience. Each lesson includes interactive activities, podcasts, and quizzes to reinforce learning.

Prerequisites: Completion of The English Literary Tradition (LT2) recommended.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this workshop, students will be able to identify the major works and authors of 19th century American literature, understand the development of a distinct American literary voice, analyze themes of identity, nature, and morality in American writing, and appreciate the contributions of American writers to world literature.
