Help young learners master counting to 100 through interactive activities that build number recognition and confidence. Point to each star as you count: 1, 2, 3, 4.

Counting is how we find out how many things there are. When we count, we say number names in order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... Each number tells us how many we have so far. Look at this group of stars: ★ ★ ★ ★. If you count them one by one (1, 2, 3, 4), what is the last number you say? That tells you how many stars there are!

Think about the number sequence: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,?,9,10

Let us practice counting forward! The numbers go in order from smallest to biggest. After 7 comes 8, after 8 comes 9, after 9 comes 10. What number comes right AFTER 7?

Count backward: 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. What number is just before 5?

We can also count backward – that means going from bigger numbers to smaller numbers. When you count backward, each number is one LESS than the number before. For example: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6... What number comes right BEFORE 5 when counting backward?

Count by tens: 10,20,30,40,50,60,?,80,90,100

Counting by tens is a fast way to count large groups! When we count by tens, we say: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100. Each time, we add 10 more. If you have 4 groups of ten, you have 40. What number comes after 60 when counting by tens?

Before means subtract 1: 25 - 1 = ? After means add 1: 25 + 1 = ?

Every number has a number that comes BEFORE it and a number that comes AFTER it. For the number 25, what is the number that comes BEFORE (one less) and what is the number that comes AFTER (one more)?

Point to each balloon as you count: 1, 2, 3, 4

Let us count objects! Look at these apples: 🍎 🍎 🍎 🍎 🍎 (5 apples). Now look at this group: 🐶 🐶 🐶 🐶 🐶 🐶 (6 dogs). Now count these balloons together: 🎈 🎈 🎈 🎈 (4 balloons) How many balloons are there?

The word for 12 is "twelve". Think of the 12 months in a year or 12 eggs in a dozen!

Numbers can be written as digits (like 7) or as words (like "seven"). Learning number words helps you read and write numbers. Match the digit "12" with its number word. What is the word for 12?

What is one more than 49? 49 + 1 = ?

Let us practice counting higher! When we count to 50, we say: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, then 11,12,13... all the way to 50. After 29 comes 30. After 39 comes 40. What number comes right after 49?

On a number line, numbers increase as you go right. So to the right of 15 comes 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.

A number line is a line with numbers placed in order. It helps us see which numbers are bigger or smaller. Numbers get bigger as you move to the RIGHT. Numbers get smaller as you move to the LEFT. On a number line from 0 to 20, which number is to the RIGHT of 15? (That means: which number is bigger than 15?)

Step 1: 78 + 10 = 88. Step 2: How many from 88 to 100? Count: 89,90,91,92,93,94,95,96,97,98,99,100 – that is 12 more.

Great job learning to count to 100! Here is a final challenge: If you have 78 toy cars and you get 10 more, how many do you have now? Then, how many MORE cars do you need to reach 100? (Hint: First add 78 + 10, then see how many more to 100.)
