Who was Bertrand Russell? Bertrand Russell (1872–1970) was a British philosopher, logician, mathematician, and social critic. With Alfred North Whitehead, he wrote Principia Mathematica, a landmark attempt to derive mathematics from logic. He made important contributions to logic, epistemology, and the philosophy of language.
