🦑 Fun fact: The giant squid\’s eye is the size of a dinner plate (up to 10 inches / 25 cm in diameter). It has the largest eye of any animal on Earth. The colossal squid has even larger eyes (up to 11 inches / 27 cm). These enormous eyes help them detect light and movement in the deep, dark ocean (over 3,000 feet / 900 meters deep). In comparison, the blue whale (the largest animal) has an eye only about 4-5 inches (10-12 cm) in diameter. The ostrich has the largest eyes of any land animal (about 2 inches / 5 cm).
