👥 Fun fact: The world population reached 8 billion in November 2022. It took only 12 years to grow from 7 billion to 8 billion (2010-2022). The next billion (9 billion) is expected to take about 14 years (by 2037). The population is growing more slowly than in the past, but still increasing. The global fertility rate has dropped from 5 children per woman in 1960 to about 2.3 today. Some countries have fertility rates below replacement level (2.1 children per woman), including Japan (1.3), Italy (1.2), and South Korea (0.8 – the lowest in the world).
