The island nation of Madagascar, located off the southeast coast of Africa, is the fourth-largest island in the world and is home to unique wildlife found nowhere else, including lemurs and baobab trees.

South Africa has three capital cities: Pretoria (executive), Bloemfontein (judicial), and Cape Town (legislative). This arrangement was established to distribute power after the union of former colonies in 1910.

The Nile River is the longest river in the world, flowing northward for 6,650 km (4,132 mi) through 11 African countries from Burundi to Egypt, where it empties into the Mediterranean Sea.

The smallest country in Africa by land area is The Gambia, a narrow strip of land that follows the Gambia River and is almost entirely surrounded by Senegal.
