🧠 Introduction to the Homophones Quiz

If you’ve ever been confused about whether to write their, there, or they’re, you’re not alone. These tricky words are called homophones — words that sound exactly the same but have different meanings and different spellings. Even native English speakers make mistakes with them sometimes!

Understanding homophones is super important for becoming a strong reader and writer. If you mix them up, your sentences might sound okay when spoken, but they won’t make sense when written. For example:
✏️ I no the answer. vs. I know the answer.
These two words sound the same, but only one is correct!

Here are a few of the most commonly confused homophones:

Their / There / They’re
Your / You’re
To / Too / Two
Affect / Effect
Right / Write
Peace / Piece
No / Know
Buy / By
It’s / Its

And many other, check here 100 of them

Each one of these word pairs (or trios!) means something totally different, so it’s important to understand how and when to use each one. A fun way to get better is by taking quizzes like this — you’ll start recognizing the correct words just by how they fit in a sentence.

In this quiz, you’ll find 10 multiple-choice questions. Each question gives you a sentence with a blank. You need to choose the correct word that fits the meaning. You’ll have four choices each time, but only one is correct.

After each question, we’ll also give you a helpful explanation so you can understand why it’s the right answer. That way, you won’t just memorize — you’ll learn!

So take your time, read each sentence carefully, and think about what the sentence is trying to say. Ask yourself:
👉 Does this word show possession?
👉 Is it a contraction like you’re or they’re?
👉 Does it refer to a place, a person, or an action?
